How to configure Outlook Express & Outlook

NOTE: These instructions may differ between different versions of outlook.

  1. Open your Outlook email client.
  2. From the “Tools” menu, select “Accounts”.
  3. On the pop-up window that presents, select “Add” then click “Mail”.
  4. Enter the name you wish to have associated with this email address in the “Display Name” text box, then click “Next”.
  5. Enter the full email address created for this account within the “Email address:” text box.
  6. In the “Incoming mail” (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: enter “mail.yourdomain.com (depends on what your registered domain name is)” ( yourdomain is simply an example, replace with the domain name associated with this account).
  7. In the “Outgoing mail” (SMTP) server: enter “mail.yourdomain.com” (same rules as above apply .
  8. Click on “Next”.
  9. Enter the email address you created in the “Account name:” text box and the password you assigned to this address into the “Password:” text box. (this might also be called username depening on what version of outlook you are using)
  10. Click on the “Servers” tab, and check the box next to “My server requires authentication.”
  11. Test account settings. If everything is ok then click ok/apply and you are off and running.
  12. If during test account settings you get an error then try step 13. below.
  13. If your ISP blocks port 25, you can override the default port number and use port 2525 instead. You will find this area under the “advanced tab”
  14. Click on “OK.”
